A new worldwide air transit facility will be launched by FedEx
Europe, a division of the world's leading shipping service FedEx, at Turkey's
Istanbul Airport in November 2024.
According to Kadri Samsunlu, CEO of Istanbul Airport, FedEx's
decision, which was made public on Monday, underscores Istanbul Airport's
status as a "strategic super hub" for both the cargo and logistics
industry as well as passengers.
"As a worldwide hub and gateway to the world, Samsunlu
continued, "We are convinced that this new facility will promote iGA
Istanbul Airport's vision, goal, and dedication.
Istanbul Airport has grown to be the second busiest hub in the
world in terms of the volume of international passengers and is one of the top
five cargo airports in Europe because to its infrastructure, connection,
technology, and location.
Eser Sezek, vice president of operations for Southeast Europe,
Israel, and Turkey for
FedEx Express, said, "We're excited about our
expansion at Istanbul Airport, which gives FedEx an even stronger foothold at
this strategic location and unlocks growth opportunities for customers trading
internationally.
According to the statement, FedEx currently provides service
for customers on important intercontinental trading routes through a shared
third-party facility at Istanbul Airport.
The new building has space for 32 vehicles, seven truck doors,
three parking spaces for FedEx flights, and cutting-edge sorting equipment that
can process 3,000 parts per hour.
According to the statement, it is also made with separate
parcel and freight processing, which is advantageous to companies that want
combine both shipment types in a single network with a single interface. This
is a special aspect of the FedEx Europe value proposition.
